DIGEST AND PURPOSE

The Associated Public Safety Communications Officials Project 25 Digital
Communications Standard (Project 25) is designed to insure the
interoperability of voice and data communications between federal, state,
and local law enforcement agencies. The Texas Interagency Radio
Communications Task Force was established for the purpose of conducting a
state agency needs assessment and evaluating technologies in order to
establish a common plan for future wireless communications. In addition,
the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has adopted Project 25. As
proposed, S.B. 1350 authorizes DPS and each state agency to acquire public
safety land mobile two-way radio communications equipment that meets the
standards of Project 25.
