DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

Currently, suits alleging a violation of the Texas Insurance Code can not
always be brought in Travis county.  As proposed, S.B. 1391 will allow
suits involving any violation of the Texas Insurance Code to be brought in
Travis County. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a
state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Chapter 21E, Insurance Code, by adding Article 21.29, as
follows: 

Article 21.29.  VENUE FOR ACTION INVOLVING VIOLATION OF INSURANCE LAW.
Authorizes any action alleging a violation of this code to be filed in a
district court in Travis County, notwithstanding any other law. 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:September 1, 2001.
    Makes application of this Act prospective.
