SRC-JBJ S.B. 1413 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1413 77R9267 TBy: Lindsay Criminal Justice 4/11/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Under current Texas law, a hospital that has treated a crime victim is allowed to submit an invoice to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund in an amount up to $50,000 for compensation for those services. As proposed, S.B. 1413 provides that the amount of compensation a non-profit or county hospital is authorized to receive for health care services the hospital provides to a crime victim is $100,000. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Article 56.42, Code of Criminal Procedure, by adding Subsection (e), to authorize a non-profit or county hospital, notwithstanding the limits on compensation set forth in Subsections (a) and (b), to receive up to $100,000 for health care services it provides to a victim. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
