SRC-MWN S.B. 1656 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1656 By: Sibley Business & Commerce 4/9/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Since the creation of the Texas Council on Workforce and Economic Competitiveness (council), both state and federal laws have been amended and repealed. As a result, the existing law contains outdated references and assigns duties to the council which no longer need to be performed. As proposed, S.B. 1656 amends the Government Code to conform the list of duties and responsibilities of the council with the provisions of existing state and federal laws. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 2308.102, Government Code, to delete text regarding duties of the Council on Workforce and Economic Competitiveness (council). (b) Deletes text regarding the council's responsibilities. (c) Deletes text regarding responsibilities formerly exercised by the various state advisory councils and committees. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
