SRC-CTC S.B. 1731 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1731 By: Cain Education 4/9/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, technology is changing the workplace and can make job and career choices confusing. As proposed, S.B. 1731 helps students make better informed career decisions by requiring the public schools to offer programs that enable students to establish a better connection to the modern workplace through better, more graphic descriptions of the equipment, conditions, and characteristics of the modern workplace. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 29.181, Education Code, to require each public school student to master the basic skills and knowledge necessary for, among other things, making informed career and job choices based on an experience of workplace characteristics; descriptions of the operating equipment, conditions and how persons do work today; establishing a connection with the workplace to provide a sense of the workplace and its environment; and expectations of the various workplaces. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
