SRC-BWC S.B. 1831 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1831 77R5725 JAT-DBy: Gallegos State Affairs 5/8/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Juan Seguin was a true Texas legend, and Texas has always taken special pride in remembering its heroes. This bill would further that tradition as well as recognize the diversity of all Texans who took part in the fight for the revolution of Texas. As proposed, S.B. 1831 designates a section of Texas Highway 225 that runs parallel to the San Jacinto Battleground Monument as the Juan N. Seguin memorial Highway. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 225B, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.046, as follows: Sec. 225.046. JUAN N. SEGUIN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. Provides that State Highway 225 between Loop 610 in Houston and State Highway 146 in La Porte is designated as the Juan N. Sequin Memorial Highway. Requires the Department of Transportation (department) to design and construct memorial markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Juan N. Sequin Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information. Requires the department to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2001.
