SRC-CTC S.C.R. 24 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.C.R. 24 2001S0093/1By: Nelson Veteran Affairs & Military Installations 2/14/2001 As Filed DIGEST The young people of Texas are an important asset, for they are the leaders and statesmen of tomorrow. Emphasizing certain qualities, such as patriotism and dignity, aids future generations of Texans in emulating and valuing them. Each year, Veterans Day is the designated day the United States honors the fighting men and women who defended the country, and those men and women who fought in wars and peace-keeping missions have left a standard for others to follow. Providing an educational opportunity for children to learn about the costs of securing democracy for future generations and instilling an appreciation of the courage and valor demonstrated by those who have given their lives to protect this country is a commendable goal for Texas schools to pursue. PURPOSE As proposed, S.C.R. 24 submits the following resolutions: Provides that the 77th Legislature encourage schools throughout the state to emphasize the observation of Veterans Day and to stress the sacrifices veterans made to ensure all the rights and privileges that today's students enjoy. Provides that a copy of this resolution be prepared as an expression of the sentiment of the Texas Legislature.
