SRC-JEC S.J.R. 33 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.J.R. 33 77R4844 SMJ-DBy: Zaffirini Intergovernmental Relations 3/23/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, the fire fighters' pension commissioner serves a two-year term. As proposed, S.J.R. 33 offers a constitutional amendment to lengthen the term to four years. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 67, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, by adding Subsection (g) to provide that, if the legislature provides for a fire fighters' pension commissioner, the term of office for that position is four years. SECTION 2. Requires this proposed constitutional amendment to be submitted to the voters at an election to be held on November 6, 2001. Requires the ballot to be printed to permit voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for a four-year term of office for the fire fighters' pension commissioner."
