1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the authority of the Texas Higher Education
1-3 Coordinating Board to conduct a feasibility study regarding the
1-4 creation of a doctor of medicine degree program at Prairie View A&M
1-5 University.
1-6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-7 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 87, Education Code, is
1-8 amended by adding Section 87.107 to read as follows:
1-9 Sec. 87.107. FEASIBILITY STUDY REGARDING CREATION OF DOCTOR
1-10 OF MEDICINE DEGREE PROGRAM. (a) In this section, "institution of
1-11 higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003.
1-12 (b) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, with the
1-13 assistance of the board of regents of The Texas A&M University
1-14 System, may conduct a study to evaluate the feasibility of an
1-15 affiliation or coordinating agreement between the board of regents
1-16 and any institution of higher education to provide the clinical
1-17 education necessary to support a doctor of medicine degree program
1-18 at Prairie View A&M University.
1-19 (c) A study conducted under Subsection (b) must be completed
1-20 on or before December 31, 2002.
1-21 (d) This section expires September 1, 2003.
1-22 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a
1-23 vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-24 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2-1 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2-2 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
