                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the authority of The Texas A&M University System to
 1-3     conduct a feasibility study regarding the creation of a doctor of
 1-4     medicine degree program at Prairie View A&M University.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 87, Education Code, is
 1-7     amended by adding Section 87.107 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 87.107.   FEASIBILITY STUDY REGARDING CREATION OF DOCTOR
 1-9     OF MEDICINE DEGREE PROGRAM. (a)  In this section, "institution of
1-10     higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003.
1-11           (b)  The board of regents of The Texas A&M University System
1-12     may conduct a study to evaluate the feasibility of entering into an
1-13     affiliation or coordinating agreement with any institution of
1-14     higher education to provide the clinical education necessary to
1-15     support a doctor of medicine degree program at Prairie View A&M
1-16     University.
1-17           (c)  This section expires September 1, 2003.
1-18           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a
1-19     vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-20     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-21     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-22     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
