                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to certain concealed handgun license fees paid by members
 1-3     of state military forces.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 411.1955 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 411.1955.  FEES PAID BY MEMBERS OF STATE MILITARY
 1-8     FORCES.  (a)  Notwithstanding any other provision of this
 1-9     subchapter, the department shall charge a fee in the amount of $25
1-10     for the issuance of an original license under this subchapter and a
1-11     fee in an amount not to exceed $25 for the issuance of a duplicate,
1-12     modified, or renewed license under this subchapter if the
1-13     department determines that the applicant is a member of the state
1-14     military forces as defined by Section 431.001.
1-15           (b)  The department shall require an applicant described by
1-16     Subsection (a) to submit proof of membership in the state military
1-17     forces with the application materials for the issuance of a license
1-18     as described by that subsection.
1-19           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a
1-20     vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-21     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-22     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-23     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
