                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the composition of the districts of the Texas House of
 1-3     Representatives.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. The districts from which the members of the Texas
 1-6     House of Representatives are elected are the districts as provided
 1-7     by law and used for the election of the members of the House of
 1-8     Representatives of the 77th Legislature except as those districts
 1-9     are changed by Section 2 of this Act.
1-10           SECTION 2. (a)  The portion of House District 19 located in
1-11     Jefferson County is transferred to House District 22.
1-12           (b)  The portion of House District 61 located in Cooke County
1-13     is transferred to House District 62.
1-14           (c)  The portion of House District 73 located in Ector County
1-15     is transferred to House District 81.
1-16           SECTION 3. The districts established by this Act apply to the
1-17     election of the members of the Texas House of Representatives
1-18     beginning with the primary and general elections in 2002 for
1-19     members of the 78th Legislature.  This Act does not affect the
1-20     membership or districts of the Texas House of Representatives of
1-21     the 77th Legislature.
1-22           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-23     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-24     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 2-1     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 2-2     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
