A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the composition of the 83rd Judicial District and to
1-3 the election of the district attorney for that district.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 24.185, Government Code, is amended to
1-6 read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 24.185. 83RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT (PECOS, REAGAN, TERRELL,
1-8 [UPTON,] AND VAL VERDE COUNTIES). (a) The 83rd Judicial District
1-9 is composed of Pecos, Reagan, Terrell, [Upton,] and Val Verde
1-10 counties.
1-11 (b) The 83rd and 112th district courts have concurrent
1-12 jurisdiction in Pecos and[,] Reagan[, and Upton] counties.
1-13 (c) The 83rd and 63rd district courts have concurrent
1-14 jurisdiction in Terrell and Val Verde counties.
1-15 (d) The terms of the 83rd District Court begin:
1-16 (1) on the second Monday in January and July; and
1-17 (2) in Reagan County on the 14th Monday after the
1-18 first Mondays in January and July[; and]
1-19 [(3) in Upton County on the 12th Monday after the
1-20 first Mondays in January and July].
1-21 (e) In each of the counties of Pecos, Terrell, [Upton,] and
1-22 Val Verde, a petition or other pleading filed in the district
1-23 courts is sufficient if addressed "To The District Court of Pecos
1-24 County, Texas,", "To The District Court of Terrell County, Texas,",
2-1 ["To The District Court of Upton County, Texas,",] or "To The
2-2 District Court of Val Verde County, Texas," respectively, without
2-3 giving the number of the district court in the address.
2-4 SECTION 2. Section 43.141(a), Government Code, is amended to
2-5 read as follows:
2-6 (a) The voters of Brewster, Jeff Davis, Pecos, Presidio, and
2-7 Reagan[, and Upton] counties elect a district attorney for the 83rd
2-8 Judicial District.
2-9 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
