1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the creation of an additional county court at law in
 1-3     Ellis County and to the jurisdiction of the county courts at law in
 1-4     that county.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Section 25.0721, Government Code, is amended to
 1-7     read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 25.0721.  ELLIS COUNTY.  Ellis County has the following
 1-9     [one] statutory county courts:
1-10                 (1)  [court,] the County Court at Law of Ellis County;
1-11     and
1-12                 (2)  the County Court at Law No. 2 of Ellis County.
1-13           SECTION 2.  Section 25.0722, Government Code, is amended by
1-14     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1-15           (c)  The county courts at law of Ellis County have concurrent
1-16     jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases regardless of
1-17     the amount in controversy.
1-18           SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 25.0721, Government Code,
1-19     as amended by this Act, the County Court at Law No. 2 of Ellis
1-20     County is created December 31, 2003, or on an earlier date
1-21     determined by the commissioners court by an order entered in its
1-22     minutes.
1-23           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
