 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the creation of an additional county court at law in
 1-9     Ellis County and to the jurisdiction of the county courts at law in
1-10     that county.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1. Section 25.0721, Government Code, is amended to
1-13     read as follows:
1-14           Sec. 25.0721.  ELLIS COUNTY.  Ellis County has the following
1-15     [one] statutory county courts:
1-16                 (1)  [court,] the County Court at Law of Ellis County;
1-17     and
1-18                 (2)  the County Court at Law No. 2 of Ellis County.
1-19           SECTION 2.  Section 25.0722, Government Code, is amended by
1-20     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1-21           (c)  The county courts at law of Ellis County have concurrent
1-22     jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases regardless of
1-23     the amount in controversy.
1-24           SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 25.0721, Government Code,
1-25     as amended by this Act, the County Court at Law No. 2 of Ellis
1-26     County is created December 31, 2003, or on an earlier date
1-27     determined by the commissioners court by an order entered in its
1-28     minutes.
1-29           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
