1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the Department of Public Safety Historical Museum and 1-3 Research Center. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Chapter 411, Government Code, is amended by adding 1-6 Subchapter J to read as follows: 1-7 SUBCHAPTER J. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY HISTORICAL MUSEUM 1-8 AND RESEARCH CENTER 1-9 Sec. 411.301. DEFINITION. In this subchapter, "museum" means 1-10 the nonprofit organization, known as the Department of Public 1-11 Safety Historical Museum and Research Center, established by 1-12 employees and former employees of the department for the purposes 1-13 of creating and operating a museum and research facility to: 1-14 (1) inform the public about the personnel and history 1-15 of the department; and 1-16 (2) educate young people about law enforcement 1-17 procedures through an interactive facility. 1-18 Sec. 411.302. GENERAL PROVISIONS. The commission may: 1-19 (1) establish a support staff in the department to 1-20 assist the museum; 1-21 (2) use department property to fulfill the purposes of 1-22 this subchapter; and 1-23 (3) enter into a contract with the museum. 1-24 Sec. 411.303. PERSONNEL. (a) The director may appoint and 2-1 assign duties to department personnel to serve as paid support 2-2 staff for the museum. 2-3 (b) The support staff may consist of a historian, a 2-4 librarian, and other personnel as needed to administer the museum. 2-5 (c) The department may spend funds to hire support staff. 2-6 Sec. 411.304. FUNDING. (a) The Department of Public Safety 2-7 Historical Museum and Research Center account is created as a 2-8 special account outside the state treasury to be held at the 2-9 Department of Public Safety Credit Union and to be administered by 2-10 the commission. The money in the account may be used only to 2-11 administer this subchapter. 2-12 (b) The account is composed of gifts, grants, and donations 2-13 collected by the department from any public or private source for 2-14 the purposes of this subchapter. 2-15 SECTION 2.
