No. 335 77R2183 YDB-F A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the creation of a historical museum and research center 1-3 regarding certain law enforcement matters. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Chapter 411, Government Code, is amended by 1-6 adding Subchapter J to read as follows: 1-7 SUBCHAPTER J. HISTORICAL MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTER 1-8 Sec. 411.301. ESTABLISHMENT. The commission shall establish 1-9 a historical museum and research center. 1-10 Sec. 411.302. PURPOSE. At the center, the commission shall: 1-11 (1) establish a museum designed to educate the public 1-12 about the department's officers and history; and 1-13 (2) provide an interactive facility to educate young 1-14 people about law enforcement procedures. 1-15 Sec. 411.303. PERSONNEL. The director shall employ a 1-16 historian, a librarian, and other personnel to administer the 1-17 center. 1-18 Sec. 411.304. FUNDING. The department shall carry out the 1-19 purposes of the center only to the extent that funds are available 1-20 under Sections 521.421(h), 521.422(d), and 522.029(h), 1-21 Transportation Code. 1-22 SECTION 2. Section 521.421, Transportation Code, is amended 1-23 by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: 1-24 (h) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for 2-1 the issuance or renewal of a license to be used only to fund the 2-2 Texas Department of Public Safety Museum and Research Center 2-3 established under Subchapter J, Chapter 411, Government Code, if 2-4 the person applying for or renewing a license chooses to pay the 2-5 additional fee. 2-6 SECTION 3. Section 521.422, Transportation Code, is amended 2-7 by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: 2-8 (d) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for 2-9 the issuance or renewal of a personal identification card to be 2-10 used only to fund the Texas Department of Public Safety Museum and 2-11 Research Center established under Subchapter J, Chapter 411, 2-12 Government Code, if the person applying for or renewing a license 2-13 chooses to pay the additional fee. 2-14 SECTION 4. Section 522.029, Transportation Code, is amended 2-15 by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: 2-16 (h) The department shall collect an additional fee of $1 for 2-17 the issuance or renewal of a commercial driver's license or 2-18 commercial driver learner's permit to be used only to fund the 2-19 Texas Department of Public Safety Museum and Research Center 2-20 established under Subchapter J, Chapter 411, Government Code, if 2-21 the person applying for or renewing a license chooses to pay the 2-22 additional fee. 2-23 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
