Chapter 411, Government Code, is amended by adding 1-12 Subchapter J to read as follows: 1-13 SUBCHAPTER J. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY HISTORICAL MUSEUM 1-14 AND RESEARCH CENTER 1-15 Sec. 411.301. DEFINITION. In this subchapter, "museum" means 1-16 the nonprofit organization, known as the Department of Public 1-17 Safety Historical Museum and Research Center, established by 1-18 employees and former employees of the department for the purposes 1-19 of creating and operating a museum and research facility to: 1-20 (1) inform the public about the personnel and history 1-21 of the department; and 1-22 (2) educate young people about law enforcement 1-23 procedures through an interactive facility. 1-24 Sec. 411.302. GENERAL PROVISIONS. The commission may: 1-25 (1) establish a support staff in the department to 1-26 assist the museum; 1-27 (2) use department property to fulfill the purposes of 1-28 this subchapter; and 1-29 (3) enter into a contract with the museum. 1-30 Sec. 411.303. PERSONNEL. (a) The director may appoint and 1-31 assign duties to department personnel to serve as paid support 1-32 staff for the museum. 1-33 (b) The support staff may consist of a historian, a 1-34 librarian, and other personnel as needed to administer the museum. 1-35 (c) The department may spend funds to hire support staff. 1-36 Sec. 411.304. FUNDING. (a) The Department of Public Safety 1-37 Historical Museum and Research Center account is created as a 1-38 special account outside the state treasury to be held at the 1-39 Department of Public Safety Credit Union and to be administered by 1-40 the commission. The money in the account may be used only to 1-41 administer this subchapter. 1-42 (b) The account is composed of gifts, grants, and donations 1-43 collected by the department from any public or private source for 1-44 the purposes of this subchapter. 1-45 SECTION 2.
