 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to prohibiting the legislature from meeting on Martin
 1-9     Luther King, Jr., Day.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Section 301.001, Government Code, is amended to
1-12     read as follows:
1-13           Sec. 301.001.  TIME OF MEETING. (a) The legislature shall
1-14     convene in regular session at 12 noon on the second Tuesday in
1-15     January of each odd-numbered year.
1-16           (b)  The legislature may not meet on a legal holiday for the
1-17     observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
1-18           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
