                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to an uncontested election for a trustee of a library
 1-3     district.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 326, Local Government Code,
 1-6     is amended by adding Sections 326.0431 and 326.0432 to read as
 1-7     follows:
 1-8           Sec. 326.0431.  WRITE-IN CANDIDACIES. Write-in votes may be
 1-9     counted only for names appearing on a list of write-in candidates,
1-10     in the manner that Subchapter C, Chapter 146, Election Code,
1-11     provides for counting write-in votes for city officers.
1-12           Sec. 326.0432.  ELECTION OF UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE. Subchapter
1-13     C, Chapter 2, Election Code, applies to the election of an
1-14     unopposed candidate for the office of trustee after the election of
1-15     the initial members of the board of trustees.
1-16           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-17     applies only to an election for the office of trustee scheduled to
1-18     be held on or after that date.
