 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to an uncontested election for a trustee of a library
1-11     district.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 326, Local Government Code,
1-14     is amended by adding Sections 326.0431 and 326.0432 to read as
1-15     follows:
1-16           Sec. 326.0431.  WRITE-IN CANDIDACIES. Write-in votes may be
1-17     counted only for names appearing on a list of write-in candidates,
1-18     in the manner that Subchapter C, Chapter 146, Election Code,
1-19     provides for counting write-in votes for city officers.
1-20           Sec. 326.0432.  ELECTION OF UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE. Subchapter
1-21     C, Chapter 2, Election Code, applies to the election of an
1-22     unopposed candidate for the office of trustee after the election of
1-23     the initial members of the board of trustees.
1-24           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-25     applies only to an election for the office of trustee scheduled to
1-26     be held on or after that date.
