1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the requirements for write-in candidates in an election
 1-3     for city officers.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Sections 146.051 and 146.055, Election Code, are
 1-6     amended to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 146.051.  CANDIDATE'S NAME REQUIRED TO APPEAR ON LIST.
 1-8     In an [a general] election for city officers, a write-in vote may
 1-9     not be counted unless the name written in appears on the list of
1-10     write-in candidates.
1-11           Sec. 146.055.  APPLICABILITY OF OTHER CODE PROVISIONS.
1-12     Subchapter B applies to write-in voting in an [a general] election
1-13     for city officers except to the extent of a conflict with this
1-14     subchapter.
1-15           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
