1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to administrative approval of state employee contributions
 1-3     to the sick leave pool.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 661.003, Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 661.003.  CONTRIBUTION TO POOL. (a)  An [To contribute
 1-8     to the sick leave pool, an employee must apply to the pool
 1-9     administrator in the manner prescribed by the governing body of the
1-10     state agency.]
1-11           [(b) On approval by the pool administrator, an] employee may
1-12     contribute to the sick leave pool one or more days of the
1-13     employee's accrued sick leave.
1-14           (b) [(c)]  The pool administrator shall credit the sick leave
1-15     pool with the amount of time contributed by an employee and deduct
1-16     a corresponding amount of time from the employee's earned sick
1-17     leave as if the employee had used the time for personal purposes.
1-18           (c) [(d)]  A retiring employee may designate the number of
1-19     the retiring employee's accrued sick leave hours to be used for
1-20     retirement credit and the number of the retiring employee's accrued
1-21     sick leave hours to be donated on retirement to the sick leave
1-22     pool.
1-23           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
