 1-8           On page 1, line 18, after the words "not less than" delete
 1-9     "$10" and substitute "$25".
1-10                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-11                                   AN ACT
1-12     relating to fees imposed on defendants placed on community
1-13     supervision.
1-14           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-15           SECTION 1. Section 19(a), Article 42.12, Code of Criminal
1-16     Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
1-17           (a)  Except as otherwise provided by this subsection, a judge
1-18     granting community supervision shall fix a fee of not less than $10
1-19     [$25] and not more than $60 [$40] per month to be paid to the court
1-20     by the defendant during the community supervision period.  The
1-21     judge may make payment of the fee a condition of granting or
1-22     continuing the community supervision.  The judge may waive or
1-23     reduce the fee or suspend a monthly payment of the fee if the judge
1-24     determines that payment of the fee would cause the defendant a
1-25     significant financial hardship.
1-26           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
