                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle on a sidewalk.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Section 545.302, Transportation Code, is amended
 1-5     by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows:
 1-6           (h)  An operator may stop, stand, or park a passenger car or
 1-7     light truck on a portion of a sidewalk that extends across a
 1-8     private driveway if the driveway is not long enough to permit the
 1-9     stopping, standing, or parking of the passenger car or light truck
1-10     on the driveway without stopping, standing, or parking on the
1-11     sidewalk.
1-12           SECTION 2. (a)  The change in law made by this Act applies
1-13     only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this
1-14     Act.
1-15           (b)  An offense committed before the effective date of this
1-16     Act is covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed,
1-17     and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
1-18           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-19     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-20     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-21     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-22     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
