                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to designating September 25 as Bill of Rights Day.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
 1-5     amended by adding Section 662.048 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 662.048.  BILL OF RIGHTS DAY. (a)  September 25 is Bill
 1-7     of Rights Day to commemorate the day Congress passed the bill of
 1-8     rights and submitted the bill of rights to the states for
 1-9     ratification.
1-10           (b)  Bill of Rights Day shall be regularly observed by
1-11     appropriate programs in the public schools and other places to
1-12     inspire a greater appreciation and understanding of the founding of
1-13     the nation and the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights of the
1-14     United States Constitution.
1-15           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
