                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to providing mandatory venue for a civil action arising
 1-3     under an oil and gas lease.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 15, Civil Practice and
 1-6     Remedies Code, is amended by adding Section 15.0116 to read as
 1-7     follows:
 1-8           Sec. 15.0116.  OIL AND GAS LEASES. An action arising under an
 1-9     oil and gas lease shall be brought in a county in which all or a
1-10     part of the real property subject to the lease is located.
1-11           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-12     applies only to a suit that is commenced on or after that date.  A
1-13     suit that is commenced before the effective date of this Act is
1-14     governed by the law applicable to the suit immediately before the
1-15     effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for
1-16     that purpose.
