 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the percentage of money received by a crime stoppers
 1-9     organization that may be used for administrative costs.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1. Section 414.010(a), Government Code, is amended to
1-12     read as follows:
1-13           (a)  Except as provided by Subsection (d), a crime stoppers
1-14     organization certified by the council to receive money in the form
1-15     of payments from defendants placed on community supervision under
1-16     Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, or money in the form of
1-17     repayments of rewards under Articles 37.073 and 42.152, Code of
1-18     Criminal Procedure, may use not more than 20 [10] percent of the
1-19     money annually received to pay costs incurred in administering the
1-20     organization and shall use the remainder of the money, including
1-21     any interest earned on the money, only to reward persons who report
1-22     information concerning criminal activity.  Not later than January
1-23     31 of each year, a crime stoppers organization that receives or
1-24     expends money under this section shall file a detailed report with
1-25     the council.
1-26           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
