                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to an additional fee to support trauma centers to be
 1-3     collected when a motor vehicle is registered.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 502.1711 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 502.1711.  ADDITIONAL FEE FOR TRAUMA CENTERS. (a)  In
 1-8     addition to other fees imposed under this chapter for a license
 1-9     plate or set of license plates or other device used as the
1-10     registration insignia, a fee of $1 shall be collected.
1-11           (b)  The county assessor-collector shall send the fee
1-12     collected under this section to the comptroller for deposit in the
1-13     tertiary care account under Section 46.003, Health and Safety Code.
1-14           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.

1-17           (1)  On page 1, line 10, strike "$1" and substitute "$5".
1-18           (2)  On page 1, line 11, strike "The" and substitute "On the

1-20           (3)  On page 1, between lines 13 and 14, insert:
1-21           (c)  The county assessor-collector may retain for
1-22     administrative costs an amount of not more than 10 percent of each
1-23     fee collected under this section.
