                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to certain required reports by disability retirees in the
 1-3     Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 824.306, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d) to read as
 1-7     follows:
 1-8           (a)  Except as provided by Subsection (d), a [(A)] disability
 1-9     retiree who is less than 60 years old annually shall submit a
1-10     report of earnings to the retirement system.  The retirement system
1-11     shall examine each report and may require at any time that a
1-12     disability retiree undergo a medical examination by one or more
1-13     physicians the retirement system designates, if the retiree has
1-14     reported earnings that the board of trustees considers excessive.
1-15           (d)  A disability retiree who is certified to be permanently
1-16     and totally disabled by the medical board is not required to
1-17     annually submit the report of earnings to the retirement system as
1-18     required by Subsection (a).
1-19           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
