                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the authority of certain counties to contract with
 1-3     water corporations to collect solid waste disposal service fees for
 1-4     the counties.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 364, Health and Safety
 1-7     Code, is amended by adding Section 364.0345 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 364.0345.  COLLECTION OF SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SERVICE
 1-9     FEES BY WATER CORPORATIONS SERVING ECONOMICALLY DISTRESSED AREAS.
1-10     (a)  In this section, "water supply or sewer service corporation"
1-11     has the meaning assigned by Section 13.002, Water Code.
1-12           (b)  A county that is eligible for financial assistance under
1-13     Section 17.923, Water Code, may contract with a water supply or
1-14     sewer service corporation serving an area of the county to collect
1-15     for the county the solid waste disposal service fees for solid
1-16     waste disposal services provided in that area by the county.  The
1-17     county shall compensate the corporation for the actual cost of
1-18     collecting the fees and may use the fees to pay the compensation.
1-19           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
