                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to payment by the Texas Education Agency of the costs of
 1-3     certain tests administered to public school students who are
 1-4     educationally disadvantaged.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
 1-7     amended by adding Section 28.027 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 28.027.  PAYMENT FOR CERTAIN TESTS. (a)  From state
 1-9     money appropriated for that purpose, the agency shall pay the costs
1-10     charged to a student who is educationally disadvantaged for
1-11     administering to the student the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment
1-12     Test (PSAT) and the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).
1-13           (b)  The agency may not pay the costs under Subsection (a) of
1-14     more than one administration of each test to an educationally
1-15     disadvantaged student.
1-16           (c)  The commissioner shall adopt rules as necessary to
1-17     administer this section.
1-18           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-19     applies only to payment of the costs charged for an administration
1-20     on or after that date of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or
1-21     the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT).
