                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the implementation of an on-campus provisional
 1-3     admission program at The University of Texas at Austin.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 67, Education Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 67.28 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 67.28.  PROVISIONAL ADMISSION PROGRAM. (a)  The board
 1-8     shall implement an on-campus provisional admission program that is
 1-9     substantially similar to the on-campus provisional admission
1-10     program that existed at the university during the 1998-1999
1-11     academic year and 1999 summer session.
1-12           (b)  The board shall admit as a fully enrolled student of the
1-13     university a student who is admitted under the provisional
1-14     admission program required by this section and who:
1-15                 (1)  successfully completes, during the summer session
1-16     or spring semester, whichever begins earlier, immediately following
1-17     the student's high school graduation, not less than 12 semester
1-18     credit hours in courses prescribed by the board and offered at the
1-19     university with a grade point average of at least 2.25 on a
1-20     four-point scale or the equivalent; and
1-21                 (2)  does not receive a failing grade or an incomplete
1-22     grade in any course for which the student registers while enrolled
1-23     under the provisional admission program.
1-24           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
