                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the jurisdiction of County Criminal Court No. 10 of
 1-3     Tarrant County.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 25.2223(a), Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           (a)  A county criminal court in Tarrant County has
 1-8     jurisdiction over all criminal matters and causes, original and
 1-9     appellate, prescribed by law for county courts, but does not have
1-10     civil jurisdiction. The County Criminal Courts Nos. [Court No.] 5
1-11     and 10 of Tarrant County also have [has] concurrent jurisdiction
1-12     within the county of all appeals from criminal convictions under
1-13     the laws of this state and the municipal ordinances of the
1-14     municipalities located in Tarrant County that are appealed from the
1-15     justice courts and municipal courts in the county. The County
1-16     Criminal Courts Nos. 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Tarrant County also have
1-17     concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in felony cases to
1-18     conduct arraignments, conduct pretrial hearings, and accept guilty
1-19     pleas.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-21     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-22     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-23     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-24     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
