1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the composition of the general investigating committee
1-3 of the house of representatives and to certain records of a
1-4 legislative general investigating committee.
1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-6 SECTION 1. Section 301.017(c), Government Code, is amended
1-7 to read as follows:
1-8 (c) The house general investigating committee must consist
1-9 of not fewer than five house members appointed by the speaker. The
1-10 speaker shall designate a committee member as chairman.
1-11 SECTION 2. Section 301.018(d), Government Code, is amended to
1-12 read as follows:
1-13 (d) A majority of the [Three] members of a general
1-14 investigating committee constitutes [constitute] a quorum to
1-15 transact business.
1-16 SECTION 3. Section 301.020, Government Code, is amended by
1-17 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1-18 (e) Information held by a general investigating committee
1-19 that if held by a law enforcement agency or prosecutor would be
1-20 excepted from the requirements of Section 552.021 under Section
1-21 552.108 is confidential and not subject to public disclosure.
1-22 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-23 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-24 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2-1 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2-2 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
