                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to designating the last Tuesday in September as Voter
 1-3     Registration Day.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 662.049 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 662.049.  VOTER REGISTRATION DAY. (a)  The last Tuesday
 1-8     in September of each year is Voter Registration Day.
 1-9           (b)  The secretary of state shall promote Voter Registration
1-10     Day with:
1-11                 (1)  advertising encouraging individuals to register to
1-12     vote; and
1-13                 (2)  programs at businesses, schools, and governmental
1-14     offices on the importance of voting.
1-15           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
