1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to eligibility for enrollment in certain law enforcement 1-3 training programs. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 1701.255, Occupations Code, is amended by 1-6 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: 1-7 (c) A person may not enroll in a peace officer training 1-8 program under Section 1701.251(a) unless the person has received: 1-9 (1) a high school diploma; 1-10 (2) a high school equivalency certificate and has 1-11 completed at least 12 hours at an institution of higher education 1-12 with at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; or 1-13 (3) an honorable discharge from the armed forces of 1-14 the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service. 1-15 SECTION 2. The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer 1-16 Standards and Education may not adopt a rule, or implement a 1-17 previously adopted rule, that requires a person who enrolls in a 1-18 training program to have an associate's degree before or after 1-19 enrollment in a training program under Section 1701.251, 1-20 Occupations Code, to be eligible for a license under Chapter 1701, 1-21 Occupations Code. This section expires September 1, 2003. 1-22 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and 1-23 applies only to eligibility for enrollment in a training program 1-24 under Section 1701.251, Occupations Code, on or after the effective 2-1 date of this Act. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
