No. 1121 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 11, 2001; 1-3 May 11, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on Criminal 1-4 Justice; May 11, 2001, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 5, Nays 0; May 11, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to eligibility for enrollment in certain law enforcement 1-9 training programs. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 1701.255, Occupations Code, is amended by 1-12 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: 1-13 (c) A person may not enroll in a peace officer training 1-14 program under Section 1701.251(a) unless the person has received: 1-15 (1) a high school diploma; 1-16 (2) a high school equivalency certificate and has 1-17 completed at least 12 hours at an institution of higher education 1-18 with at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; or 1-19 (3) an honorable discharge from the armed forces of 1-20 the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service. 1-21 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and 1-22 applies only to eligibility for enrollment in a training program 1-23 under Section 1701.251, Occupations Code, on or after the effective 1-24 date of this Act. 1-25 * * * * *
