                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the establishment of a school of law at the University
 1-3     of North Texas.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Chapter 105, Education Code, is amended by adding
 1-6     Subchapter I to read as follows:
 1-7           SUBCHAPTER I.  UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS SCHOOL OF LAW
 1-8           Sec. 105.201.  ESTABLISHMENT. The board of regents of the
 1-9     University of North Texas shall establish and maintain a school of
1-10     law as a professional school of the University of North Texas.
1-11           Sec. 105.202.  COURSES AND DEGREES. The board may prescribe
1-12     courses leading to customary degrees offered at other leading
1-13     American schools of law and may award those degrees.
1-14           Sec. 105.203.  LOCATION. The school of law shall be located
1-15     in the city of Dallas.  If the University of North Texas maintains
1-16     a campus in the city of Dallas, the school of law shall be located
1-17     at that campus.
1-18           SECTION 2.  The board of regents of the University of North
1-19     Texas shall, contingent on the legislative appropriation of money
1-20     specifically for that purpose, establish a school of law as
1-21     provided by Subchapter I, Chapter 105, Education Code, as added by
1-22     this Act, not later than September 1, 2003.  If the legislature
1-23     does not appropriate money specifically for that purpose, the board
1-24     of regents of the University of North Texas at any time may, but is
 2-1     not required to, establish and maintain the school of law using
 2-2     other appropriations available for that purpose.
 2-3           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
