1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the application of certain licensing and registration
 1-3     requirements to activities involving resilient floor-covering
 1-4     material.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Section 15A(a), Texas Asbestos Health Protection
 1-7     Act (Article 4477-3a, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended to
 1-8     read as follows:
 1-9           (a)  The licensing and registration requirements of the Act
1-10     do not apply to activities involving resilient floor-covering
1-11     material provided any removal of such material is performed
1-12     consistent with work practices published by the resilient floor
1-13     covering industry or by other methods determined by the
1-14     Commissioner to provide public health [comparable] protection from
1-15     asbestos exposure.  Any person who removes resilient floor covering
1-16     material must have completed a training course covering such work
1-17     practices for a minimum of [a period not to exceed] eight hours.
1-18           SECTION 2. Section 15A(c), Texas Asbestos Health Protection
1-19     Act (Article 4477-3a, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is repealed.
1-20           SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
