                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the expiration of a license to carry a concealed
 1-3     handgun.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 411.183, Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 411.183.  EXPIRATION. (a)  A license issued under this
 1-8     subchapter expires on the first birthday of the license holder
 1-9     occurring after the fifth [fourth] anniversary of the date of
1-10     issuance.
1-11           (b)  A renewed license expires on the license holder's
1-12     birthdate, five [four] years after the date of the expiration of
1-13     the previous license.
1-14           (c)  A duplicate license expires on the date the license that
1-15     was duplicated would have expired.
1-16           (d)  A modified license expires on the date the license that
1-17     was modified would have expired.
1-18           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
1-19           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-20     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-21     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-22     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-1     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
