A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the fee for reinstatement or issuance of certain
1-3 suspended or denied driver's licenses.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 524.051(a), Transportation Code, is
1-6 amended to read as follows:
1-7 (a) A driver's license suspended under this chapter may not
1-8 be reinstated or another driver's license issued to the person
1-9 until the person pays the department a fee of $125 [$100] in
1-10 addition to any other fee required by law. Of each fee collected
1-11 under this subsection $25 may be appropriated only to the State
1-12 Office of Administrative Hearings to cover the costs of hearings
1-13 conducted by that office under this chapter and Chapter 724.
1-14 SECTION 2. Section 724.046, Transportation Code, is amended
1-15 by amending Subsection (a) and by adding Subsection (c) to read as
1-16 follows:
1-17 (a) A license suspended under this chapter may not be
1-18 reinstated or a new license issued until the person whose license
1-19 has been suspended pays to the department a fee of $125 [$100] in
1-20 addition to any other fee required by law. A person subject to a
1-21 denial order issued under this chapter may not obtain a license
1-22 after the period of denial has ended until the person pays to the
1-23 department a fee of $125 [$100] in addition to any other fee
1-24 required by law.
2-1 (c) Of each fee collected under this section $25 may be
2-2 appropriated only to the State Office of Administrative Hearings to
2-3 cover the costs of hearings conducted by that office under this
2-4 chapter and Chapter 524.
2-5 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
2-6 applies only to a fee collected under Section 524.051 or 724.046,
2-7 Transportation Code, as amended by this Act, after the effective
2-8 date of this Act.
