                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the election and terms of office of the board of
 1-3     directors of the Tarrant County Water Control and Improvement
 1-4     District No. 1.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Chapter 268, Acts of the 55th Legislature,
 1-7     Regular Session, 1957 (Article 8280-207, Vernon's Texas Civil
 1-8     Statutes), is amended by adding Section 1A to read as follows:
 1-9           Sec. 1A.  (a)  The district is governed by a board of five
1-10     directors.  Except as provided by Subsection (c), directors are
1-11     elected as prescribed by Chapter 49, Water Code.
1-12           (b)  Directors serve staggered four-year terms.
1-13           (c)  The election of directors shall be held on the same day
1-14     and in the same location as the general election for officers of
1-15     the municipality with the greatest population that is located in
1-16     the district.
1-17           SECTION 2.  (a)  The three directors whose terms expire in
1-18     January 2004 serve until their successors are elected in the first
1-19     election of that year that meets the requirements of Section 1A(c),
1-20     Chapter 268, Acts of the 55th Legislature, Regular Session, 1957
1-21     (Article 8280-207, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), as added by this
1-22     Act.
1-23           (b)  The two directors whose terms expire in January 2002
1-24     serve until their successors are elected in  the first election of
 2-1     that year that meets the requirements of Section 1A(c), Chapter
 2-2     268, Acts of the 55th Legislature, Regular Session, 1957 (Article
 2-3     8280-207, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), as added by this Act.
 2-4           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 2-5     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 2-6     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 2-7     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 2-8     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
