 1-7                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-8                                   AN ACT
 1-9     relating to the registration fee for dogs required by certain
1-10     counties.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1. Section 822.028, Health and Safety Code, is
1-13     amended to read as follows:
1-14           Sec. 822.028.  REGISTRATION FEE. (a)  An owner of a dog
1-15     registered under this subchapter must pay a registration fee of $1.
1-16     However, the commissioners court of the county may set the fee in
1-17     an amount of more than $1 but not more than $5, and if the court
1-18     sets the amount of the fee the owner must pay that amount.
1-19           (b)  Registration is valid for one year from the date of
1-20     registration.
1-21           (c) [(b)]  If a dog is moved to another county, the owner may
1-22     present the registration certificate to the county treasurer of the
1-23     county to which the dog is moved and receive without additional
1-24     cost a registration certificate.  The new registration certificate
1-25     is valid for one year from the date of registration in the county
1-26     from which the dog was moved.
1-27           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-28     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-29     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-30     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-31     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
