1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the administration of retirement systems for paid,
1-9 partly paid, or volunteer fire fighters.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 21(f), Texas Local Fire Fighters
1-12 Retirement Act (Article 6243e, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is
1-13 repealed.
1-14 SECTION 2. Section 21A, Texas Local Fire Fighters Retirement
1-15 Act (Article 6243e, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended by
1-16 amending Subsections (f) and (g) and adding Subsection (h) to read
1-17 as follows:
1-18 (f) The fire fighters' pension commissioner shall hear
1-19 appeals as provided by this Act and may examine the records and
1-20 accounts of boards of trustees established under this Act and adopt
1-21 rules and prescribe forms for the administration of this Act and
1-22 shall classify and coordinate the reports of the various boards of
1-23 trustees and shall verify any and all applications of the boards of
1-24 trustees.
1-25 (g) The fire fighters' pension commissioner shall file
1-26 annually with the governor and the presiding officer of each house
1-27 of the legislature a complete and detailed written report
1-28 accounting for all funds received and disbursed by the commissioner
1-29 during the preceding fiscal year, other than funds of the Fire
1-30 Fighters' Relief and Retirement Fund established under the Texas
1-31 Statewide Volunteer Fire Fighters Retirement Act (Article 6243e.3,
1-32 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes). The annual report must be in the
1-33 form and reported in the time provided by the General
1-34 Appropriations Act.
1-35 (h) [(g)] The fire fighters' pension commissioner shall
1-36 prepare and maintain a written plan that describes how a person who
1-37 does not speak English or who has a physical, mental, or
1-38 developmental disability can be provided reasonable access to the
1-39 programs administered by the commissioner.
1-40 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
