1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the development of a United States air defense museum
1-3 at Fort Bliss.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Chapter 442, Government Code, is amended by adding
1-6 Section 442.0087 to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 442.0087. FORT BLISS MUSEUM AND STUDY CENTER. (a) The
1-8 commission may assist Fort Bliss Military Reservation in El Paso in
1-9 the establishment and operation at Fort Bliss of a museum and study
1-10 center devoted to the history of the United States air defense
1-11 system.
1-12 (b) To accomplish the purposes of this section, the
1-13 commission may:
1-14 (1) seek and accept gifts, grants, and donations of
1-15 funds or property from public and private sources, including
1-16 seeking available federal funds; and
1-17 (2) contribute funds appropriated to the commission
1-18 for the purpose.
1-19 (c) The commission may provide assistance and contribute
1-20 funds under this section only if the commission receives
1-21 appropriate assurances that, subject to the security requirements
1-22 of the military reservation, the museum and study center will be
1-23 open for use by the general public.
1-24 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2-1 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2-2 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2-3 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2-4 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
