                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to showing the cause of death on the death certificate of
 1-3     an inmate of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice who is
 1-4     lawfully executed.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Section 193.005, Health and Safety Code, is
 1-7     amended by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
 1-8           (j)  The death certificate of a decedent who was an inmate of
 1-9     the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the time of death and
1-10     who was lawfully executed shall classify the death as a death
1-11     caused by legal execution.
1-12           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-13     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-14     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-15     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-16     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.

1-18           Amend H.B. No. 1962 on page 1, line 11, by striking "legal"
1-19     and substituting "judicial".
