No. 1984 77R6474 KEL-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to enacting the Uniform Student Admission Act to ensure 1-3 the fair and uniform treatment of all applicants for undergraduate 1-4 admission to a general academic teaching institution. 1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-6 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is 1-7 amended by adding Section 51.9246 to read as follows: 1-8 Sec. 51.9246. UNIFORM STUDENT ADMISSION ACT. (a) In this 1-9 section, "general academic teaching institution" has the meaning 1-10 assigned by Section 61.003. 1-11 (b) A general academic teaching institution shall treat each 1-12 applicant for admission to the institution as an undergraduate 1-13 student fairly and according to the same standards as other 1-14 applicants for undergraduate admission to the institution, 1-15 including an applicant who has been promised or granted financial 1-16 assistance described by Section 51.9245 or any other financial 1-17 assistance conditioned on the applicant's participation in an 1-18 extracurricular activity organized or sponsored by the institution. 1-19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and 1-20 applies only to the admission of a student to a term or semester 1-21 that begins on or after that date.
