No. 2110 77R5509 JD-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the issuance of special license plates for motorcycles 1-3 owned by former members of the United States armed forces. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 502.252, Transportation Code, is amended 1-6 to read as follows: 1-7 Sec. 502.252. CERTAIN SPECIALIZED PLATES AVAILABLE 1-8 PERSONALIZED. A person applying for license plates under Section 1-9 502.2555, 502.258, 502.2586, 502.259, 502.260, 502.261, 502.262, 1-10 502.263, 502.264, 502.265, 502.269, 502.270, 502.271, 502.272, 1-11 502.273, 502.2731, 502.274, 502.289, 502.291, 502.294 may: 1-12 (1) have a license plate number assigned by the 1-13 department; or 1-14 (2) apply for personalized prestige license plates 1-15 under Section 502.251. 1-16 SECTION 2. Subchapter F, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, is 1-17 amended by adding Section 502.2586 to read as follows: 1-18 Sec. 502.2586. MOTORCYCLES OF FORMER MEMBERS OF UNITED 1-19 STATES ARMED FORCES. (a) The department shall issue specially 1-20 designed license plates for motorcycles owned by retired or 1-21 honorably discharged members of the United States armed forces. 1-22 (b) License plates issued under this section must include 1-23 the words "U.S. Veteran." 1-24 (c) The department shall issue license plates under this 2-1 section to a person who: 2-2 (1) applies to the department on a form prescribed by 2-3 the department; 2-4 (2) pays the annual fee prescribed by Subsection (e), 2-5 in addition to the fee prescribed by Section 502.160, and, if a 2-6 personalized prestige license plate is issued, in addition to the 2-7 fee prescribed by Section 502.251; and 2-8 (3) submits proof that the person is eligible under 2-9 this section. 2-10 (d) The department shall send 50 cents of each fee collected 2-11 under this section to the county treasurer of the county in which 2-12 the applicant resides. The county treasurer shall credit money 2-13 received under this section to the general fund of the county to 2-14 pay the costs of administering this section. 2-15 (e) The annual fee for issuance of license plates under this 2-16 section is: 2-17 (1) $5 for the first license plate; and 2-18 (2) $7.50 for each additional license plate. 2-19 (f) If the owner of a motorcycle registered under this 2-20 section disposes of the motorcycle during the registration year, 2-21 the owner shall return the special license plate to the department. 2-22 The owner may then apply for issuance of that plate to another 2-23 motorcycle. 2-24 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
