1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to public school admission of military personnel and
1-3 dependents under reciprocity agreements between states.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 25, Education Code, is
1-6 amended by adding Section 25.005 to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 25.005. RECIPROCITY AGREEMENTS REGARDING MILITARY
1-8 PERSONNEL AND DEPENDENTS. (a) To facilitate the transfer of
1-9 military personnel and their dependents to and from the public
1-10 schools of this state, the agency may pursue reciprocity agreements
1-11 with other states governing the terms of those transfers.
1-12 (b) A reciprocity agreement must:
1-13 (1) address procedures for transferring student
1-14 records;
1-15 (2) address procedures for awarding credit for
1-16 completed course work; and
1-17 (3) include appropriate criteria developed by the
1-18 agency.
1-19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-20 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-21 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
1-22 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-23 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
